Austin TX, Nov. 21, 2017 -- Energy for all is a serious issue, with 1.2 billion people around the globe lacking access to electricity. Against this backdrop, global IoT cellular communications specialist Eseye is today announcing a project partnership with Village Infrastructure Angels (VIA) to provide rural villages in developing countries with solar power for micro-energy infrastructures. The resulting assets, in this case solar powered agro-mills, have the potential to begin to free 300 million women worldwide from one hour of daily labour in processing crops, fetching water and collecting firewood, with significant resulting social, economic and health benefits.

Village Infrastructure Angel’s latest project, in Vanuatu in the South Pacific, is focused on the development of the solar agro-mills that are leased to local female entrepreneurs. The system uses Eseye’s global AnyNet Secure SIM to provide the cellular and delivers data onto the AWS Cloud; it will be demoed at AWS re:Invent in Las Vegas from 27th November. This connectivity is needed to effectivity measure the energy being consumed by the agro-mill. Without this data, VIA cannot design the system to correctly charge the batteries to work for the length of time required, meaning the entrepreneur cannot run her business.
Paul Marshall, Chief Customer Officer at Eseye, says, “Devices for any type of business need to be operational 100 per cent of the time, without the concerns or barriers caused by data, roaming, billing management or support. For organisations such as Village Infrastructure Angels, which is working on projects that can change the lives of some of the most deprived people in the world, this becomes critical.”
Stewart Craine, managing director at Village Infrastructure Angels, says, “Due to our work with Eseye, we are now able to measure the daily power generation from solar powers and the daily power consumption via customers. This gives us complete understanding of whether the service is being over or under-utilised so we can provision the system accordingly.
“As a result, the solution can provide our investors and donors with real time digital data directly from the mills within villages. This makes our business model far more investable, which is essential as we continue to meet our ambitious mission of catalysing access to energy for all by 2030.”
