Democrats’ expected gains in the U.S. midterms drew an antiwar interpretation from Iran, where parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf linked the result to President Donald Trump’s war and living costs.
In a post on X, Ghalibaf wrote: “Conscience or the cost of living, Americans said NO TO WAR, and we endorse this message.”
The Independent’s Wednesday account said projections favored Democrats for control of the House and Senate, though counting continued. The outlet also said Trump acknowledged the war with Iran may have hurt Republicans at the polls, while denying personal responsibility. He argued Republicans would have won “by a landslide” if his name had appeared on the ballot.
The Independent put the declines at 0.7% for Nasdaq 100 futures, 2.7% for Japan’s Nikkei and up to 4% for South Korea’s Kospi. Citing the Financial Times, the outlet said investors were focused on Texas and Ohio, where Democratic victories could slow data-center projects through tighter construction rules and local limits on permits or zoning.
Before the election, EconoTimes covered economic pressures facing Trump’s political base amid the Iran conflict.
