Iranian Ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali said Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian will attend Tuesday’s gas exporters summit in Moscow, where members are set to discuss gas markets and cooperation among exporters.
The Oct. 27 gathering is the eighth summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), an intergovernmental organization whose members include Iran, Russia, Qatar and Algeria. Its agenda also covers natural gas’s role in the global economy.
Pezeshkian’s visit comes alongside plans for talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said in a Friday Instagram post that the presidents would meet after Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s Oct. 19 visit to Tehran.
During that visit, Pezeshkian pressed for progress on energy and transport agreements with Russia. Pezeshkian and Putin previously met in Bishkek on Sept. 1 and Avaza on Oct. 8. Their planned Moscow meeting coincides with Tuesday’s summit.
