A day before a Lebanese military delegation was scheduled for talks in Florida, Lebanon’s official National News Agency (NNA) reported Israeli airstrikes, shelling and troop detonations across the south on Oct. 19.
NNA said warplanes struck Wadi al-Hujair and carried out two waves of strikes near Tallouseh in the Marjayoun district. It also reported that Israeli troops carried out two detonations in Qantara.
The agency said a quadcopter launched a projectile onto a building’s roof in Mayfadoun’s al-Rajm neighborhood; the building had been struck before. NNA also described intermittent shelling outside Mayfadoun, artillery fire at Haddatha and shelling in Mansouri and its surrounding valley.
L’Orient Today’s regional correspondent reported airstrikes in Kfar Tibnit and Haddatha and outside Braasheet. The correspondent also reported artillery fire outside Mayfadoun, Marwahine and Mansouri, as well as a drone dropping a stun grenade in Mayfadoun. Anadolu Agency said no casualties were immediately reported.
A U.S.-sponsored framework signed by Lebanon and Israel on June 26 outlines a phased Israeli withdrawal, deployment of the Lebanese army and Hezbollah’s disarmament. Lebanese President Joseph Aoun accused Israel of violating the framework on Oct. 19.
Aoun’s office said the Lebanese military delegation was scheduled to attend talks in Tampa, Florida, on Oct. 20 to press for an end to Israeli escalation.
