‘Jack Reacher: Never Go Back’ is set to feature the return of Tom Cruise in the lead role as seen in a newly released poster and television spot. Cruise stars in the second installment in the Jack Reacher film adaptations based on Lee Child’s best-selling novels.
According to Comingsoon.net, Paramount Pictures and Skydance Media recently dropped the newest poster for director Edward Zwick’s upcoming sequel to the 2012 action-thriller film starring Tom Cruise in the lead role. The poster featured Cruise as the series’ main protagonist Jack Reacher, a former Major in the U.S. Army Military Police Corps.
Cruise was first introduced as the title character in Christopher McQuarrie’s ‘Jack Reacher’, a live-action adaptation of Lee Child’s novel ‘One Shot’. The first l film received generally positive reviews from critics and found success at the North American box office upon its release on December 2012.
According to Box Office Mojo, McQuarrie’s film earned $80 million at the domestic box office and $138.27 million at the foreign box office. It received $218.34 million worldwide on a production budget of $60 million. The film also starred Oscar-nominee Rosamund Pike, Richard Jenkins, Jai Courtney, Robert Duvall, and Werner Herzog.
The sequel is set to follow Jack’s continuing exploits as he returns to Virginia to meet the head of his former unit. Upon finding that she has gone missing, he also finds that he has been charged with a crime that was committed nearly two decades past. Cobie Smulders of ‘How I Met Your Mother’ fame has joined the new cast as his latest leading lady Major Susan Turner.
Principal photography commenced on October 2015 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Filming also took place in Baton Rouge and St. Francisville. The new film is based on Child’s novel of the same name in the best-selling Jack Reacher series.
The film’s official action-packed television spot has also been released recently, according to We Got This Covered. The trailer opened to Cruise’s Jack arrested by police in a diner. Jack then goes on to threaten that the policemen will be the one ending up in cuffs and it seems that he stayed true to his promise.
In another scene, Smulder’s Major Turner is seen asking for Jack’s help over the phone explaining that U.S. soldiers are getting killed. Jack and Major Turner then team up to find answers to what seems to be a new conspiracy.
‘Jack Reacher: Never Go Back’ is an upcoming action-crime film directed by Edward Zwick and written by Zwick, Richard Wenk, and Marshall Herskovitz. It is intended as the second installment in the series based on Lee Child’s best-selling novels. It is scheduled to premiere in theaters on October 21, 2016.
