As Washington puts economic security at the center of its G20 agenda, India’s External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar is scheduled to attend talks in Atlanta on Oct. 30-31, focused on how geopolitical crises can affect economies.
The U.S. Department of State says Secretary of State Marco Rubio is hosting the meeting. Washington says ministers will discuss ways to strengthen economic security and respond to crises that can ripple through the global economy. Announced priorities include the safety of shipping routes, access to energy and food, and dependable supply chains.
The Associated Press reported that wars, U.S. tariffs and China’s activities in the South China Sea are among the contentious issues surrounding the meeting. AP also linked conflicts and trade tensions to higher global fuel costs and uncertainty in trade.
The Atlanta talks are part of preparations for President Donald Trump’s G20 leaders’ summit in Miami in December, the State Department said. EconoTimes previously previewed the Atlanta meeting.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said at an Oct. 28 briefing that Jaishankar is also scheduled to attend a Quad foreign ministers’ meeting and hold bilateral engagements in Atlanta. Jaiswal said Jaishankar would then travel to St. John’s, Antigua and Barbuda, to lead India’s delegation to the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, scheduled for Nov. 1-4.
