The Jak and Daxter franchise had some of the most iconic video games during the PlayStation 2 era. Developed by the legendary studio Naughty Dog, Jak and Daxter practically became synonymous with the console. Unfortunately, the series hasn’t really seen a resurgence with new titles, but there is some good news. More games of the franchise will be available for download for the PS4 soon.
As announced on the PlayStation Blog, the rest of the Jak and Daxter franchise will be available for download on the PlayStation Store starting December 6th. This is a follow-up to the release of the Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy package that was launched a few months ago. In this latest offer, players will be able to dive into Jak II, Jak 3, and Jak X Combat Racing.
Each game will be available for $14.99 but they could also be obtained via the bundle, which costs $39.99. The post also explains in detail what made the franchise so great, especially once Naughty Dog gave Jak a voice.
“By giving Jak a voice, it allowed Naughty Dog to explore new narrative techniques that allowed them to create a grittier world with a much more developed and evolved storyline. Jak and Daxter evolved from whimsical lighthearted platforming characters to a much darker vision of a future’s past world where Jak and Daxter find themselves pitted against multiple dark forces moving against them,” the post reads.
Apparently, the development of these games also helped the studio become the kind of story-telling behemoth that finally ended up creating The Last Of Us, which is often considered one of the best video games of all time due to its narrative. As Cinemablend noted, it’s a bit odd to say that this was the case, but it’s certainly a fact that the Jak and Daxter series was highly enjoyable.
