Jawar Mohammed, a prominent political activist, said Ethiopian government forces and allied fighters killed a Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) commander at Bizet in eastern Tigray, with two senior members also captured amid renewed hostilities.
Anadolu Agency reported Mohammed’s account. He said Col. Semere Teklu, commander of the TPLF’s Army 92 unit, was killed. Mohammed also said government troops and allied Tigray Peace Forces captured Hailesilassie Asefa, commander of the TPLF’s 15th Army unit, and Col. Kahsay Teklu, a logistics chief, along with fighters under their command.
Separately, Wazema Radio reported that Tigray’s federally appointed interim administration had introduced rules affecting eligibility for local election candidates. Anadolu Agency said Wazema had reviewed the regulations.
AFP has reported that the TPLF governed Tigray for decades and previously ruled Ethiopia before Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed took office in 2018. EconoTimes previously reported that renewed Tigray clashes had strained Ethiopia’s 2022 peace accord.
