Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co. (KHNP) will seek another builder for the Czech Republic’s Dukovany project after contract talks with a consortium failed to produce an agreement, The Korea Herald reported Thursday.
KHNP said the talks involved Daewoo Engineering & Construction Co. and Doosan Enerbility Co. The disagreement centered on contract provisions, according to the report.
The consortium said KHNP presented revised terms in early October and turned down its request for an extension of the Oct. 29 deadline. It argued the changes could leave construction firms with added expenses from design revisions, although they were not involved in reactor design, and called for negotiations to resume.
KHNP said the breakdown over the construction contract would not end the wider Dukovany project. Industry Minister Kim Jung-kwan said in a Facebook post that he respected KHNP’s decision and pledged government support for construction.
KHNP said it will prepare a tender to select another construction contractor.
