KPMG’s Oct. 30 estimate puts October U.S. payroll growth at 45,000, as projected private-sector hiring outweighs an expected decline in public employment ahead of the federal jobs release.

It assigns 50,000 additional jobs to private employers and a 5,000-job contraction to the public sector. The resulting net gain would be 16,000 higher than September’s reported increase.

September’s reported payroll gain was 29,000.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported 4.2% unemployment for September and cut the combined payroll estimate for July and August by 60,000.

The BLS is scheduled to publish its October Employment Situation report at 8:30 a.m. ET (13:30 UTC) Friday, Nov. 6. That release will provide the official October figure for comparison with KPMG’s forecast.
