White House press secretary Katie Zacharia said Friday that administration officials had not asked about her legal credentials after a Fox News bar-exam question, as reports emerged that she was leaving her post.
On Fox & Friends, co-host Lawrence Jones asked whether Zacharia wished she had told President Donald Trump that she had not passed the California bar exam. She replied, “Those questions weren’t asked,” and said she had been hired as press secretary, not White House counsel.
The Independent said it found more than a dozen television clips in which Zacharia described herself as a lawyer. Trump called her an attorney in an Oct. 9 Truth Social post announcing her appointment. The State Bar of California lists the state’s bar exam among the requirements for admission to practice law.
Jones also asked whether she still had Trump’s confidence. Zacharia referred to traveling with him to midterm rallies and said she hoped to build trust with those around her.
Axios reported that Zacharia had been ousted, while ABC News said she was transitioning out of the post, as EconoTimes previously reported. Trump said Friday that he urged Zacharia to rethink the role and would talk with her after his weekend trip.
