North Korean leader Kim Jong Un urged army company commanders to intensify training and prepare their units for war, linking unit readiness with North Korea’s broader military buildup, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported.
The Third Meeting of Company Leaders of the Korean People’s Army took place in Pyongyang on Oct. 22-23. Kim later joined participants for a commemorative photo session on Oct. 27, KCNA said.
KCNA also said Kim asked each company to help meet North Korea’s new-era military buildup goal, continuing his earlier appeal for army units to support the goal.
The remarks came amid a separate dispute over an explosion in the DMZ that injured three South Korean soldiers, Anadolu Agency reported. Seoul blamed North Korea for the explosion, while Anadolu Agency reported that Pyongyang rejected the accusation.
