Tim Marr finds the best Black Friday deals for shoppers by tracking the prices of popular consumer products at a number of major retailers. Online spending during Black Friday 2017 is already outperforming previous sales events, thanks to a higher number of shoppers and more deals on offer. Last year shoppers spent $650 billion during the Black Friday sales week and this year’s total is expected to be up by 4.5% on 2016.
Originally Black Friday was a 24 hour sales event with shoppers queueing for hours to access discounts at brick and mortar stores. In recent years e-commerce has made up an ever greater share of Black Friday sales. Estimates from the NRF Survey indicate that over half (52%) of Black Friday shoppers went online in 2016, highlighting the growing importance of e-commerce in driving Black Friday sales.
Black Friday week starts on November 20th with online sales from the biggest retailers starting at 12AM. Deals culminate on Black Friday and Cyber Monday, which fall on November 24th and November 27th.
