The Korea Exchange paused program buy orders on South Korea’s main stock market for five minutes after KOSPI 200 futures rose 5%, restricting programmed purchases without halting the entire market.

The futures move triggered a buy-side sidecar. The restriction applied to program buy orders on the KOSPI; it did not amount to a marketwide trading halt.

Yonhap reported that the KOSPI closed Wednesday 3.29% higher at 5,735.66, while Samsung Electronics gained 5.67% and SK hynix rose 5.81%.

The rebound followed a 3.73% decline in the previous session, which left the benchmark at 5,552.74, according to Korea Exchange figures cited by Yonhap. Technology shares led that selloff, wiping out the index’s gains from the preceding two sessions.

The KOSPI had opened Tuesday at 5,733.57 and touched 5,493.24 before closing, Yonhap reported. Despite Wednesday’s rise, the benchmark remained below its Monday close of 5,768.01.
