In a column for El Líbero, Chilean defense and national security expert Richard Kouyoumdjian wrote that if he were Argentina’s president, he would favor buying the islands for about $15 billion—roughly $4 million per resident.

He estimated the amount at about $4 million per island resident. Kouyoumdjian called Argentina’s strategy for recovering the islands ineffective and unlikely to succeed, presenting a purchase as his hypothetical alternative.

His column also discusses the sovereignty dispute and economic pressure on businesses connected to the islands. EconoTimes has separately covered Gardiner’s comments on U.S. interests in the Falklands dispute.
