Anadolu Agency reported that Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov welcomed first lady Melania Trump’s White House meeting on the Oleshky truce but said Moscow lacked details of President Donald Trump’s talks with a Russian envoy.
Russian and Ukrainian representatives attended the Nov. 5 gathering. Peskov called the meeting positive, Anadolu reported.
For the humanitarian work, Peskov pointed to cooperation between Trump’s staff and the human-rights commissioners in both countries. He singled out Russian Human Rights Commissioner Yana Lantratova and described the political and humanitarian links between Washington and Moscow as mutually reinforcing, Anadolu reported.
The White House said Russia and Ukraine signed written agreements for the pause on Oct. 23, enabling aid deliveries and the evacuation of nearly 800 people from Oleshky, in Ukraine’s Kherson region. The administration’s Oct. 23 announcement set Oct. 29 as the planned start. Earlier EconoTimes coverage of the disputed start dates cited Ukrainian and Russian operational accounts pointing instead to Oct. 27. Anadolu reported that the six-day ceasefire expired Sunday at 4 p.m. ET (21:00 GMT).
Trump told reporters Thursday that he had met Russian presidential envoy Kirill Dmitriev, who attended the White House event, but had not met the Ukrainian representatives, Anadolu reported. Trump said he expected an agreement extending beyond Ukraine and possibly involving Europe.
Peskov said Friday that Dmitriev had not returned from the United States and declined to comment on the agreement Trump described, according to Anadolu. He also said Russia had received no European proposals on security guarantees. Peskov said future security discussions would need to include European governments and address both Russia-Ukraine arrangements and Europe’s wider security structure.
At the Nov. 5 gathering, Melania Trump urged the sides to pursue lasting peace, the White House said. EconoTimes previously reported on her appeal for a broader peace effort.
