A late Monday Russian missile strike in Kyiv left at least one person dead and 10 injured, city officials said, as rescue operations continued and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the toll was still preliminary.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said many of those injured had been outside a residence hall at State Trade and Economics University, east of the Dnipro River. Nine people needed hospital treatment, and three of them were in serious condition, he said.
Ukraine's state rescue services reported finding a body near an apartment block with severe damage. Officials said the strike hit an educational institution, homes and an underground station. Klitschko said blasts broke windows at two medical facilities.
Zelenskyy said on Telegram that he could not give a final casualty figure while rescue work continued. Earlier Monday, he said Ukraine had gone nearly a month without a decision from U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on missile supplies for Patriots and NASAMS. Zelenskyy said he had asked his team to take the request back to U.S. officials and said artificial delays in air defense were “helping terror.”
Reuters witnesses reported multiple blasts and power outages in areas east of the Dnipro River.
