LIG Nex1 has been selected to carry out a 44-billion-won national project to develop hydrogen fuel cell-powered autonomous cargo drones that can carry 200 kilograms of cargo.
The development of the drones, to be deployed to the military, will be completed in 2025.
The drones would be used as a model to further develop urban air mobility (UAM) equipment.
LIG Nex1 has been developing a multi-copter drone that can carry 40 kilograms and cargo. It also has the expertise in developing drones for surveillance and strike missions.
The South Korean firm will collaborate with authorities in Gwangju, where the country's UAM test center is scheduled to be built.
