African Brands Congress plans to examine how artificial intelligence (AI) may be used in brand marketing and customer engagement at its Lagos conference, with privacy, bias and public trust on the agenda, BusinessDay reported Tuesday.

The meeting is themed “The Future of Brands in the Era of Artificial Intelligence.” BusinessDay said expected attendees include people from business, marketing, technology, public policy and brand ownership, from Africa and other regions.

BusinessDay quoted the organizers as saying brands face pressure to adapt as AI changes how shoppers find products, companies tailor promotions and businesses manage customer relationships. They said adoption should preserve audience trust and the creative and cultural identity of African brands.

The report said discussions will cover tools that help companies understand consumer behavior, anticipate demand, streamline content production and improve customer support. The agenda also includes data privacy, intellectual property, algorithmic bias and misinformation.

The conference is scheduled for the end of October in Lagos, BusinessDay reported.
