Latvia’s armed forces said the threat from a brief airspace intrusion near the Russian and Belarusian borders had ended Sunday, Nov. 1, after an unidentified object left the country’s airspace.
The military’s first notice urged people in the area to stay indoors and keep clear of anything flying low or appearing suspicious. Roughly 30 minutes later, it said the object was no longer in Latvian airspace and the danger had passed.
Reuters reported that Ukrainian military drones have crossed into airspace over Finland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania amid Ukraine’s attacks on Russian Baltic Sea oil ports. Reuters said some drones failed to reach their targets, prompting security responses in nearby countries.
Reuters reported competing claims: Moscow contends NATO airspace gives Kyiv cover for strikes on Russia, while Kyiv blames Russian signal jamming for sending some drones off course. The outlet linked earlier drone incidents in Latvia to a government collapse there earlier this year.
