Leaders in Europe disagree with Trump ban but citizens may not

Most of the leaders in the European Union have criticized the immigration ban imposed on seven countries in the Middle East and North Africa on the very first week of Donald Trump’s presidency. However, that may not be the case, when it comes to the citizen of Europe. While the news reports would tell you that people are protesting in all across the world as well as in the European Union, what they don’t tell you is that many in Europe might actually support Mr. Trump’s move.

According to Pew Research Center,

  • 76 percent of Hungarians feel that taking refugees increase the likelihood of terrorism. Well, some of the liberals might discard that view by saying that there is a right-wing tilted government in Hungary led by Victor Orban, who is closer to Putin. But these numbers are quite high for other prominent European economies too.
  • 71 percent in Poland, 61 percent in Germany, 60 percent in Italy, 55 percent in Greece, 46 percent in France and 40 percent people surveyed in Spain think that taking refugees in the country increases the risk of domestic terrorism.

The seven countries banned by Donald Trump include Iraq and Syria and the people in Europe do not have a favorable view of the migrants coming from there.

  • 73 percent in Poland, 69 percent in Greece and Hungary, 65 percent in Italy, 52 percent in the UK, 45 percent in France, 42 percent in Spain, and 31 percent of the people surveyed think that refugees from Iraq and Syria pose serious threats.
