French Finance Minister Roland Lescure urged adoption of a budget by year-end that would reduce the deficit to 5%, after Moody’s kept France’s Aa3 sovereign rating and negative outlook unchanged.

Moody’s announced the decision on Oct. 23, the date listed for the scheduled review of France’s Aa3 rating.

The government’s 2027 finance bill is meant to keep efforts to repair public finances moving. Lescure said Moody’s decision reflected confidence in France’s economy and the credibility of the proposed budget.
