Newtown Square, PA, Sept. 29, 2016 --
LivSecure is proud to announce the winners of its first annual national scholarship program, which supports students who are studying to make our neighborhoods a safer place. The three winners from New York and Oregon will receive scholarships to help fund college degrees in law, law enforcement, criminal justice or a related field.
Applicants were asked to write an essay on what attracted the applicant to a law enforcement-related career and what they hoped to achieve from this career. The three winners were selected from more than 200 submissions by an internal committee. This year’s winners are:
Hunter Diana Maclean is a freshman at Colgate University in New York and received the $1,000 scholarship to pursue her dream of becoming an attorney. Hunter has always believed strongly in justice and having compassion for others. While still in high school, she started a charity called Warm Detroit, where she collected hats, gloves and jackets for the less fortunate.
Taylor M. Glass, a freshman at Erie Community College in New York, received a $500 scholarship to aid in her plans to become a civilian law enforcement officer. Taylor is already a member of the New York Army National Guard and member of the honorable Military Police Corps.
Christina Lydia-Marie Azhocar, who will attend Portland State University in Oregon also received a $500 scholarship and plans to study criminal justice with the goal of becoming a civil servant or police officer. She excelled in the NJROTC program, graduated from leadership camps, was captain of the academics, drill, and marksmanship teams, was a public affairs officer, and was the highest ranking junior cadet in her unit.
“Security is so multi-faceted, ranging from those that pursue careers as first responders to those that choose to focus on the justice side. We are so inspired by the applicants for the LivSecure scholarship and how they articulate the difference they dream to make within their respective communities,” said Megan MacDonald, Vice President of Marketing for My Alarm Center, LivSecure’s parent company. “The missions of these young people really aligns with the ideals and values we hold true as a company - to keep everyone out of harm’s way. Congratulations to Hunter, Taylor and Christina, we wish them all the very best.”
