South Korean businesses specializing in four business areas and 37 related agencies are collaborating to create a connected car ecosystem, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy.
The group which called themselves Connected Car Alliance consists of those specializing in automobiles, self-driving technology, semiconductors for automobiles, and telecommunications software.
A ceremony of the alliance attended by about 150 business representatives, including those from Hyundai Motor Co., Hyundai Mobis Co., LG Electronics Inc., Renault Korea Motors, and KT Corp.
There were also academic professionals in attendance.
Large-scale demonstration projects will be carried out while the enterprises that specialize in manufacturing telecommunications parts and systems develop vehicle telecommunication system technology based on international standards.
The task of creating security solutions for applications in cooperative intelligent transportation systems and vehicle-to-everything (V2X) will fall to organizations that specialize in security solution development (C-ITS).
Using highly accurate maps and traffic data, telecom carriers and service platform developers will design a new service model based on a linked car platform.
A complete self-driving system and vehicle software will be created by manufacturers and integrated with linked cars.
