GREAT FALLS, Mont., Aug. 03, 2017 -- A local cancer research fundraiser invites attendees to cut loose and let their hair down. Literally. The 7th annual “Buzz Your Fuzz” event will take place Saturday, August 26 at Hollis’ Hi Ho Tavern, and will feature an auction, raffle, BBQ, drinks, and, of course, the main event – head shaving!
Everyone is welcome to join in the events of the day, and head-shaving participants will each raise money individually to donate to the cause. For more information on how to volunteer to get buzzed or to pledge online, visit www.buzzyourfuzz.com.
Last year’s event raised $45,000 for the Benefis Sletten Cancer Institute & Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Event organizers have set their sights even higher for this year, and as an incentive, the auction includes top-shelf items, such as a private elk hunting trip on a 25,000-acre private ranch, a Big Sky weekend on the mountain, guided fishing trip on the Missouri, a Whitefish Lake or Golf weekend, and many others.
The event was created and is held in memory of Michael John Eve, former Great Falls and Whitefish resident. Eve received treatment at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle during his fight with renal cell carcinoma. Mike lost his battle in 2009 at age 49. Eve was the former Finance Director for the City of Whitefish. Eve was named Government Worker of the Year by the Whitefish Chamber of Commerce in 2008. Doctors at the University of Washington hospital removed Eve’s kidney, but the growth on his liver was entwined with major blood vessels and was inoperable. They told him his cancer was chronic and incurable. Nevertheless, Eve remained upbeat, buoyed by support from his wife, Valerie, their son, Dylan, and other family members.
The event committee splits proceeds between the local Benefis Sletten Cancer Institute and the Seattle based Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, who has had three doctors who have been honored with the Nobel Prize in physiology and medicine.
The Buzz your Fuzz event helps to provide wigs, prosthetics, cosmetology, transportation, and other important services for patients.
Sponsors of the 7th Annual Buzz Your Fuzz include Dr. John Van Gilder; Farm Bureau Financial Services, Rob Shulte; Guy Tabacco Construction; Hollis’ JOSEPH EVE CPAs; Karl Tyler Chevrolet & Cadillac; Kovacich & Snipes, P.C.; Leonbro; Michael J.
