Traders positioned for a rise accounted for $191 million of crypto positions forcibly closed in a one-hour reading on Oct. 24, compared with $9 million in positions betting on declines.
The reported total was about $200 million. Liquidation is the forced closure of a position, and the amounts track the positions closed rather than a separate figure for traders’ realized losses.
Long trades are structured to gain value when an asset rises; short trades are intended to benefit when it falls. This makes the split a measure of which direction had more positions closed during the measured interval.
Long liquidations made up about 96% of the reported total. The $191 million long-side tally was $182 million above the short-side figure and came to roughly 21 times its value.
The reading covers a single hour on Oct. 24; it does not give a 24-hour total. It shows the value and direction of liquidated positions during that window.
