Three major Paris museums were closed Saturday as France prepared for planned protests amid concerns about potential violence after last weekend’s unrest, The Independent reported.

France’s culture ministry said the Louvre, Orsay and Picasso museums would close. It also asked institutions it oversees to take steps to keep people safe and protect their collections. The Independent said the previous Saturday’s unrest included fires, smashed shop windows, looting and clashes with police.

EconoTimes previously reported plans to close three Paris museums ahead of the Oct. 24 protests.

Art Basel Paris organizers canceled the fair’s weekend program Thursday, citing the threat of unrest, The Independent reported. The event was held at the Grand Palais and featured 211 international galleries. After two days for invited guests, the fair admitted the public Friday; organizers said weekend ticket holders would be contacted. The Independent said the planned Saturday protest was expected to be larger than a peaceful demonstration in Paris on Thursday.
