Lucid Motors’ 2025 Air electric sedan has received the highest safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), scoring five stars in crash tests. This top-tier classification strengthens Lucid’s reputation for prioritizing safety in EV engineering and design.
Lucid Air 2025 Secures Five-Star NHTSA Rating, Showcasing Advanced Safety and Engineering Excellence
A U.S. regulator has awarded Lucid Motors' 2025 Air electric sedan the highest safety classification possible. The sedan was evaluated as part of a safety assessment encompassing approximately 87 percent of all new vehicles, per Teslarati.
According to a press release shared by Lucid, the 2025 Lucid Air was awarded a five-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA) New Car Assessment program on October 29. This rating is the highest conceivable. A total of 37 vehicles, including eight electric and hybrid variants, were assessed during the testing program.
In the tests, the agency assessed crashworthiness by conducting tests on frontal, side, and rollover collisions and additional tests to evaluate the performance of specific advanced driver assistance systems. Additionally, the test operators were assessed.
“Safety has been a top priority from the outset at Lucid and achieving five stars in NHTSA’s New Car Assessment Program will give owners further confidence in their Lucid Air,” writes Eric Bach, Lucid’s SVP of Product and Chief Engineer. “This is a fantastic result, albeit one that was fully expected given the comprehensive engineering process for Lucid Air.”
Lucid Air's Safety-First Design Earns Top Rating as Gravity SUV Prepares for Debut
Lucid prioritizes the safety of its electric vehicles, which is a direct consequence of the Air sedan's "clean-sheet design and engineering."
“NHTSA is committed to providing the public with the most reliable and up-to-date safety information so they can choose the vehicle that’s right for them,” says Sophie Sulman, NHTSA Deputy Administrator. “The 5-Star Safety Ratings program motivates automakers to integrate advanced safety technologies into a wider range of vehicles, helping to save lives and reduce injuries on our nation’s roads.”
The NHTSA's website lists the five-star safety victors, including the Chevy Silverado and the Audi Q6 E-Tron EV.
Additionally, Lucid is gearing up to introduce its second electric vehicle, the Gravity SUV, next month. Lucid announced on October 29 that Gravity EV orders will be available starting November 7. The Touring configuration of the EV is priced at $79,990, while the Grand Touring is priced at $94,900.
