‘Luke Cage’ season 2 is expected to return on Netflix but no official release date has been announced as of the present. Showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker revealed his expectations for the new installments during a recent interview while main actor Mike Colter remained hopeful for an early 2018 premiere for the second season.
During an interview with Mashable, Coker revealed his expectations for the second season of the American web television series based on the Marvel comic book character of the same name. He said, “Just bulletproof dopeness! That’s what I want to maintain. I’m hoping that people continue to really enjoy the flavor of the show, and that it feels like a real Harlem and a real New York, but at the same time, has that Marvel twist — the Marvel twist with Netflix’s reach. That’s really this combination of all those factors that I think made Season 1 really a great ride, and hopefully we can maintain that same feel.”
He continued, “That’s my hope for Season 2, is that we have some of the similar sounds, but we go in a deeper direction. So I’m hoping that we avoid the sophomore jinx in that, because we know what we have in Mike [Colter], because we know what we have in our cast, that we’re just pushing deeper.”
Coker also revealed that events from the upcoming Netflix miniseries ‘The Defenders,’ which features a team up between Colter’s Luke Cage, Charlie Cox’s Daredevil, Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones, and Finn Jones’ Iron Fist, will not influence the second season of ‘Luke Cage.’
According to Screen Rant, season 2 has yet to begin production but may kick off some time in the summer. Colter appeared at Houston’s Comicpalooza where he was asked about the second season. He said, “I’m about to start next month. When the Defenders comes out on August 18, that’ll be something we can hold onto for a little while and we can enjoy that. And hopefully, we’ll get to see Luke Cage out early next year.”
‘Luke Cage’ season 2 was renewed on Netflix last December 2016. No official release date has been made as of the present.
