The Rhône prefecture set a curfew in part of central Lyon for Oct. 19–20, while Nice Mayor Éric Ciotti announced restrictions on minors in central Nice as France responded to weekend unrest.

The Lyon order covers only part of the city center and the night of Oct. 19–20, Anadolu Agency reported. Ciotti’s measure applies to minors in specified parts of central Nice. Neither restriction covers its entire city.

The measures follow a Paris police curfew for selected central districts. Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu had instructed prefects to choose affected areas after consulting mayors and chambers of commerce. He ruled out a curfew across all of Paris.

The unrest and looting occurred in several cities alongside demonstrations over living costs. Lecornu said the local curfews were intended in part to protect shops. The restrictions limit movement for people in the covered part of Lyon and for minors in the designated parts of Nice.
