M-Pesa, a mobile money service launched in 2005, will be closed over the weekend, on April 18 and 19, as its engineers will be handling a crucial part of the two-year project of moving its servers from Germany to Kenya.
Betty Mwangi, the company's financial services general manager, while addressing a press conference in Nairobi, said that having the server system transferred to Kenya is intended to make the service delivery faster and more efficient.
Moreover, the change of server location will be accompanied by a new system, which will come with additional features to enable smoother incorporation of added services. The new system called G2 (second generation) will enable the integration of more business-to-business and business-to-customer products.
"More innovators can now come and do business with us because unlike the old system which is rigid in terms of design, this one is more flexible", she said.
