Now that the MacBook Air 2018 has been revealed, people are starting to ask whether or not the $1,000 price of the subnotebook is worth it considering it’s higher than what end users were expecting. While consumers have been anticipating radical changes for the subnotebook, they were also hoping that the new Air will be lighter in terms of cost, specifically, under $1,000.
However, the new enhancements that Apple gave the MacBook Air 2018 seem to have prevented a lower price point for the device given that the improvements are quite impressive. For instance, the new Air received a ~4200 score in a single-core testing and ~7800 in a multi-core testing on Geekbench, 9to5Mac reported.
When this score mark is put in comparison to the 2017 variant, the MacBook Air 2018 is 27 percent faster in single core and 28 percent faster in multi-core. Apple has also outfitted the subnotebook with a Retina display that has a 2560x1600 native resolution, an addition that was heavily requested by fans of its predecessor.
What’s more, the company has made some drastic changes under the hood of the MacBook Air 2018. Its memory has been doubled from its predecessor as it contains a 16GB worth of RAM. It’s running on an eighth-gen Intel Core i5 CPU and contains an impressive 1.5TB storage.
On the upper right-hand corner of its keyboard, the MacBook Air 2018 has a Touch ID fingerprint reader that is a welcome addition for consumers. And with Apple’s T2 security chip, the device is more secure than ever.
While some people were expecting the Touch Bar to be included in the enhancements of the MacBook Air 2018, it was actually a good idea by Apple to forego it. Having added the feature would’ve made the subnotebook’s price go even higher, which would undoubtedly negatively impact the sales performance of the product.
The battery life of the MacBook Air 2018 has also been improved and Apple claims that the device can run for 12 hours on a single charge. As a kicker, Apple made the subnotebook from 100 percent recycled aluminum, a decision that will most likely resonate among those who care deeply for the environment.
To conclude, the MacBook Air 2018 offers new changes to its display and hardware while staying lightweight and portable. Of course, the decision to ultimately purchase the product comes down to a consumer’s preference and whether or not the $1,199 cost is worth it considering the abovementioned specs. The MacBook Air 2018 is slated for release on Nov. 7, giving plenty of time for people to conduct their own research online if this device truly is worth its price.
