A man was found dead at Smothering Creek on Boompa Road in Queensland on Monday as heavy rain disrupted travel and prompted rescues in the state’s south and east, the Australian Associated Press (AAP) reported.

The Queensland Police Service (QPS) confirmed the death. AAP reported that emergency crews were called to the site after reports that a man was unresponsive.

Rivers rose and roads flooded in Queensland’s south and east. AAP reported that six campers were rescued from floodwaters and some roads were closed. EconoTimes previously reported school and road disruption during flooding in southeast Queensland.

Meteorologist Angus Hines described the weather system as unusual, citing conditions in the upper atmosphere. AAP said powerful winds high above the ground helped carry the storm band. The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) expected typical spring weather to return as the week continued, with less intense afternoon showers and storms. AAP also reported current flood warnings and warnings of further rain and flooding.
