An Abuja event on Oct. 22 marked Media Trust Group’s unveiling of a newsroom designed to link its newspaper, broadcast and digital operations, Voice of Nigeria reported.

The group says AI tools will help staff prepare and distribute content, manage newsroom tasks and study how audiences use its services. Journalists will retain editorial judgment, verification and accountability. Voice of Nigeria reported that editors and producers on different platforms can access incoming field reports in real time.

Media Trust's prelaunch announcement named Daily Trust, Trust TV, Trust Radio, Aminiya and Digital Trust among the group's platforms. Premium Times reported that Weekend Trust and Teen Trust were also included, but Media Trust's announcement did not separately confirm those titles for the October operation.

Media Trust said data about how people use and access its content would help editors shape coverage. The company said audience metrics would not dictate editorial choices. It also said linking print, broadcast and digital channels could help coordinate and measure advertising campaigns. Media Trust described the initiative as an investment in commercial sustainability.

The group tied the project to audiences' growing use of mobile and digital channels for news. Group Chief Executive Officer Ahmed I. Shekarau said the strategy was intended to “understand and serve our audiences better.”

In January, Trust Radio said Media Trust had put an AI-powered newsroom into operation at its Abuja headquarters through Project Evolution. Voice of Nigeria reported the October unveiling, but the reports do not specify whether it was a formal opening of the January newsroom, a relaunch or a wider expansion.

At the event, Nigeria's Information and National Orientation Minister Mohammed Idris urged media organizations to protect professional standards as they adopt new tools. He also called for stronger fact-checking and fair political coverage ahead of the country's 2027 general elections, Voice of Nigeria reported. “Innovation must go hand in hand with professional judgement, ethical standards and public trust,” Idris said.
