Mister Donut is kicking off autumn early with the introduction of chestnut donuts, alongside their beloved sweet potato lineup. These seasonal treats will be available starting August 28, offering a taste of Japan's cherished fall flavors.
Celebrate Autumn with Mister Donut’s Limited-Edition Sweet Potato Donuts and New Chestnut Flavors
Autumn is a cherished season for food enthusiasts in Japan, often referred to as "Shokuyoku no Aki" or "Appetite Autumn." It's a time when various produce, fish, rice, and even certain types of sake are at their peak in flavor. Seasonal sweets also play a significant role in the allure of fall, so Mister Donut, Japan’s beloved donut chain, annually introduces limited-time sweet potato donuts to celebrate the season. This year, they’re also adding a new tantalizing fall flavor.
This marks the sixth year that Mister Donut has crafted their sweet potato (satsuma imo) donuts, known as the Satsuma Imo-do series. According to SoraNews24, these donuts are made with a blend of the prized Beni Haruka and Anno Imo varieties of sweet potatoes. Mister Donut has adjusted the ratio between the two to enhance the texture, making the donuts moist and slightly sticky, mimicking the experience of biting into a freshly cooked sweet potato.
The lineup begins with the Satsuma Imo-do Torori Mitsu Imo Mitsu, priced at 172 yen (US$1.15). This donut is coated in a sweet potato glaze and offers a pure, focused flavor. For those seeking something a bit more elaborate, there’s the Satsuma Imo-do Salty Butter Cream (194 yen), which adds a subtle crunch from salt and the crispness of imo kenpi (sugar-coated fried sweet potato) pieces sprinkled on top. Rounding out the trio is the Satsuma Imo-do Fragrant Brulee (194 yen), which combines the flavors of donuts, sweet potatoes, and creme brulee, complete with a caramelized sugar coating.
Mister Donut Introduces New Chestnut Donuts for Fall, Expanding Its Beloved Seasonal Offerings
In addition to sweet potatoes, another classic autumn flavor in Japan is chestnut, and for the first time, Mister Donut is introducing chestnut donuts. The Kuri-do series (from "kuri," meaning chestnut) features two varieties. The Kuri-do Waguri Whip (237 yen), or Japanese Chestnut Whipped Cream, comes with a chestnut-flavored glaze, golden chocolate sprinkles, and a filling of whipped cream mixed with chestnuts from Kumamoto Prefecture. The Kuri-do Angel and Waguri An (237 yen) feature chestnut-flavored chocolate flakes outside and a filling of Kumamoto chestnuts, whipped cream, and sweet bean paste (anko) inside.
Although these sweet potato and chestnut donuts are part of Mister Donuts’s fall menu, they will be available starting August 28 and remain in stores until late October while supplies last.
