The Economic Times reported that Odisha received ₹30 billion for more than 3.538 million farmers, compared with The Times of India’s pre-event estimate of ₹7.0785 billion for 3,539,297 farmers.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi released the 24th installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) program in Banaskantha, Gujarat, on Friday, Oct. 30, public broadcaster Akashvani reported. The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare had announced a planned national transfer exceeding ₹186.9 billion to more than 93.4 million farmers. Moneycontrol reported a post-event total of ₹186.8 billion for 93.4 million recipients, below the ministry’s announced threshold. EconoTimes previously covered the planned 24th installment.
The Economic Times reported after the release that more than 3.538 million Odisha farmers received funds, putting the state’s amount at ₹30 billion. The Times of India had reported before the event that ₹7.0785 billion was due to go to 3,539,297 farmers. At ₹2,000 per recipient, that count implies about ₹7.08 billion, far below The Economic Times’ reported ₹30 billion state total.
Started in February 2019, PM-KISAN is a central government program that provides eligible landholding farm families with annual income support. The ministry sets the amount at ₹6,000 a year, divided into three equal payments sent to bank accounts.
The Economic Times also reported that Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi joined the state program virtually from Bhubaneswar. Majhi said farmers affected by recent floods would receive support after crop-damage assessments and under prevailing norms. The outlet did not quantify the damage or say when the assessment would be completed.
