Mysten Labs said President Kevin Boon accepted a request to become CEO, while co-founder Evan Cheng will lead its new AI unit focused on agent-trust products and infrastructure tied to Sui and Walrus.

In the Oct. 16 letter, Cheng said he would remain chief technology officer while taking responsibility for the new business. He framed the change as giving him more room to steer technical choices and engineering work. Mysten plans to give the unit dedicated engineering and product teams, along with other functions. Its structure will follow a model set by Mysten’s onchain finance unit, which the company established earlier in summer 2026. Cheng described a goal of letting people delegate tasks to AI agents while setting limits on what they can do.

An Oct. 6 project with Google Cloud offers an example of the unit’s direction. Mysten and Google Cloud introduced the Verifiable Agent Arbiter (VAA), a system intended to help businesses check whether an AI agent acted within the authority it received. In the proposed design, customers would keep detailed activity records in Google Cloud Storage, while Walrus would hold cryptographic proofs and Sui would coordinate the process. Cheng said in the Oct. 6 announcement: “This requires evidence any counterparty can verify.” Mysten said initial enterprise deployments are planned before wider availability, but gave no timetable.

Mysten appointed Boon president effective Jan. 9, 2025, after he had served as chief legal officer. The company said he would oversee parts of strategy and operations alongside Cheng. Before joining Mysten, Boon was general counsel at Picsart. At Block, his work covered legal matters across product, regulatory, commercial and international teams. He also served as lead counsel for Amazon retail teams and subsidiaries. Boon began his career as a transactional associate at Shearman & Sterling LLP.

Mysten Labs, founded in 2021, describes itself as an original contributor to the Sui blockchain.
