NDTV Profit reported that Laurus Labs rose 149% in a Diwali-period comparison of Indian drugmakers, far ahead of the Nifty Pharma index’s 22% increase over the same stretch.
The outlet put Sai Life Sciences’ gain at 70%, Gland Pharma’s at 58%, IPCA Laboratories’ at 54% and Divi’s Laboratories’ at 48%. Its report did not identify the trading dates or prices used, or say whether the returns included dividends, so the comparison cannot be reproduced from the figures published.
NDTV Profit placed the ranking against developments in semaglutide patent protection, U.S. tariff policy and contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) outsourcing. The report did not establish that these developments drove the share gains or quantify the CDMO opportunity.
The Delhi High Court said Indian Patent 262697, which covers semaglutide, would expire March 20, 2026. The ruling sets a date for that patent but does not establish regulatory approval, a product launch or sales.
Sun Pharma said a U.S. agreement would bring most-favored-nation (MFN) pricing to state Medicaid programs and future innovative medicine launches. The company also said the deal postpones Section 232 tariffs on innovative pharmaceutical products for more than two years; it kept the remaining terms confidential.
The White House said agreements with nine manufacturers, including Sun Pharma, would make their MFN prices available to Medicaid programs in every state. It said the companies had committed at least $19.6 billion collectively for near-term U.S. manufacturing.
Generic-drug tariffs were addressed separately. An April White House proclamation said generic medicines and related ingredients were exempt from Section 232 tariffs “at this time” and directed the Commerce secretary to report within one year on whether circumstances might warrant action. President Donald Trump announced a two-year period without U.S. tariffs on generics in a July 21 Truth Social post; implementation details were unconfirmed. The Commerce report is the proclamation’s next stated policy checkpoint.
NDTV Profit also identified competition among GLP-1 drugmakers and the search for growth sources beyond lenalidomide as issues for investors to track.
