NFL, or the National Football League, announced that it had launched its own subscription-based streaming service platform, which it named NFL+. It will be available on mobile devices such as tablets and smartphones.
As per CNN Business, the American football league debuted its streaming service on Monday, July 25, and it will offer exclusive access to live local and primetime NFL game matches and more. Subscribers can get the NFL Plus by downloading the NFL app and through NFL.com.
The subscription fee for the service is $4.99 per month or $39.99 per year. The content for the paid subscription is said to be the same as that the league offered for free in the last several years through its NFL mobile app.
It should be noted that NFL+ will not be viewable on television as it will be exclusive to tablets and mobile phones only. This means the games will not be streamed on TV if using the service since it wants to preserve the traditional way of watching games through the tube. This is a good thing for the TV broadcast industry since NFL is still one of the shows that drives the biggest ratings.
In any case, aside from the games, NFL+ users will also enjoy access to NFL Films archives and the league’s own network shows. Live local and national audio for all the games will also be offered to subscribers.
"Today marks an important day in the history of the National Football League with the launch of NFL+,” Roger Goodell, NFL’s commissioner, said in a press release. “The passionate and dedicated football fans are the lifeblood of the NFL, and being able to reach and interact with them across multiple platforms is incredibly important to us.”
The commissioner added, “We look forward to continuing to grow NFL+ and deepening our relationship with fans across all ages and demographics, providing them access to a tremendous amount of NFL content, including the most valuable content in the media industry: live NFL games."
Meanwhile, CNBC mentioned that there is also another option for the NFL+ subscription, and this is the premium version which is priced at $9.99 per month or $79.99 a year. This plan will include all of the features in the regular version and will come with full game replays across devices. There will be coaches' films inclusive of All-22, and the best part is that all of these are ad-free.
