A 10% retreat from its October high has pushed the Nasdaq 100 into correction territory, putting semiconductor and artificial-intelligence shares in focus as investors weigh pressure on major technology stocks.
The index is also below its 100-day moving average. Major semiconductor and AI companies are among its constituents, leaving the technology-heavy benchmark exposed to weakness across both groups.
FXStreet reported that Nasdaq 100 futures were down more than 2% at 4:07 a.m. ET (08:07 UTC) Friday, Oct. 30, as investors weighed technology earnings, large spending plans and market expectations for higher interest rates.
Alphabet-related concerns surfaced during the broader bout of market volatility. Investors are looking for signs the sector’s decline is easing.
The International Monetary Fund's October 2026 Global Financial Stability Report counted a possible market correction linked to AI among three key risks. It said large cloud and data center operators accounted for 10% of global investment-grade corporate bond issuance by July 2026, compared with less than 1% at the end of 2024. The figures refer to new issuance, not the full amount of outstanding bonds; EconoTimes previously covered the IMF's AI-financing warning.
Upcoming Fed remarks and economic releases could influence sentiment across markets.
