JASPER, Ind., Sept. 25, 2017 -- Kimball International, Inc. (NASDAQ:KBAL) announced that the company’s National Office Furniture business unit has received the distinction of One of America’s Safest Companies by EHS Today Magazine, the leading magazine in occupational health and safety in the workplace.
National received this honor because it has injury and illness rates significantly lower than the average for its industry while supporting comprehensive training programs and integrating safety into its corporate culture from the management level to employee involvement. EHS Today also distinguished National for its ability to provide innovative solutions to safety challenges and communicate the value of safety to employees and customers.
“At National we are very passionate about our Vision of being injury free,” said Vince Cooke, National’s Director of Safety. “To be named by EHS Today as one of “America’s Safest Companies” is an honor. Our low injury rate is attributed to each and every employee making good choices to avoid injury. Management at every level has shown a commitment to safety by demonstrating its value in everything that we do while driving continuous improvement. We will continue our journey to be injury free. Every National employee is responsible for achieving this award.”
“A big focus for us this year has been ownership of safety. Does the executive suite own it? Do supervisors? What about employees; how do they fit in?” asked Sandy Smith, EHS Today’s Content Director. “We realized that for the 13 winning applications, despite the diverse industries and sizes of companies, one message resonated loud and clear: Every employee at these companies – from the CEO to the newest hire – plays a role in safety, has ownership of safety.”
“I am proud to say that all Kimball International locations share National’s commitment to safety,” added Bob Schneider, Chairman of the Board and CEO, Kimball International, Inc.
