Ahead of actor Peter Capaldi’s departure in “Doctor Who,” multiple reports are saying that BBC has already cast his replacement.
The identity of the actor who will play the 13th Doctor has intrigued fans for quite some time, with some bookies listing A-listers to British TV familiars. Nonetheless, former showrunner Russell T. Davies teased a few details that will help narrow down the show’s list of potential Doctors, Screenrant said.
Talking to Andy Vision, Davis refused to be drawn to the line of questioning by an interviewer. However, he did say, “I do know who it is.”
And when he was asked to do something to confirm the new Doctor’s age, his reaction confirmed that fans should expect a younger reincarnation of the Time Lord.
Comicbook.com said some reports have even went as far as checking with bookies and providing a source that the next Doctor is actor Kris Marshall, whom audiences will remember as the goofy Brit who went to the US to seek “The One” in “Love Actually.” But there has been more clamor for a female Doctor, with names Michaela Coel and Hayley Atwell of “Agent Carter” fame thrown into the rumor mill.
However, Gizmodo said since 2013, outgoing showrunner Steve Moffat has since cleared the air that while they welcome the idea of a female doctor, and it wouldn’t happen soon.
He said, “It’s absolutely narratively possible [that the Doctor could be a woman]... And when it’s the right decision, maybe we’ll do it. It didn’t feel right to me, right now. I didn’t feel enough people wanted it... Oddly enough most people who said they were dead against it – and I know I’ll get into trouble for saying this – were women. [They were] saying, “No, no, don’t make him a woman!””
