NiSource’s proposed $57.5 million savings plan for NIPSCO customers is tied to data center development and would include temporary monthly bill relief for residential electric customers, pending regulatory approval.

The proposal was announced Wednesday, Oct. 28. The $57.5 million figure describes the planned savings overall; the residential bill credit is one part of the proposal.

If regulators approve the plan, a typical NIPSCO residential electric account would receive about $5 off its bill each month for 18 months. NIPSCO expects the first credit to appear around a month after approval.

NiSource has also projected about $1.75 billion in savings for existing customers under signed GenCo agreements, including a new agreement with Microsoft, as EconoTimes reported in its coverage of the company’s third-quarter results and capital plan.

Regulatory approval is the next step before NIPSCO can begin the proposed bill credits. If approved, they are expected to start about a month later.
