Nigeria’s government inaugurated road works in Kano on the Abuja–Kaduna–Zaria–Kano corridor Wednesday, but four reports described stretches ranging from 17.32 kilometers to the 137-kilometer Section III.

Kano Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the ceremony, The Guardian reported. The outlet said the work covered 17.32 kilometers of asphalt pavement.

Ahead of the event, TVC News reported that a statement from Francis Nwaze, Senior Special Assistant to the Minister of Works on Media, put the planned commissioning length at 30.58 kilometers.

The News Agency of Nigeria reported that Works Minister David Umahi said the government had inaugurated the first 118-kilometer lot, while work on a second 164-kilometer lot was nearing completion. Premium Times reported that Tinubu commissioned all of Section III, which the Ministry defines as the 137-kilometer Zaria–Kano stretch.

The Ministry’s project scorecard lists the full route at 375.4 kilometers, divided into Abuja–Kaduna at 165 kilometers, Kaduna–Zaria at 73.4 kilometers and Zaria–Kano at 137 kilometers. Its contract updates separately describe lots of 118 kilometers and 164 kilometers. The accounts give different lengths, and the cited Ministry records do not establish how much road was inaugurated Wednesday.

Yusuf said the reconstruction was expected to ease travel for people and agricultural produce and reduce travel time and vehicle operating costs, The Guardian reported.

Ministry records say Julius Berger received the original contract in December 2017, with work flagged off in June 2018 under a 36-month schedule. The Ministry’s public update lists the first lot as complete, the second as more than 60% complete and December 2026 as the target for the wider project.
