Nigeria’s Operation Fansan Yamma said troops killed eight suspected terrorists and rescued three people in three northwestern states, while leaving unanswered whether two other Kaduna abductees were freed.
Premium Times said it could not independently verify the reported encounters or casualty figures. The military attributed the account to a statement issued Monday, Oct. 26, by Capt. Tamuno Sinivie, the task force’s media information officer.
In Bagega, in Zamfara’s Anka Local Government Area, the military said troops rescued two people: Shehu Chete, 40, and Bugu Bedi, 25, who were from Kebbi State. The two were taken to Bagega Clinic for medical care.
In Kaduna’s Igabi Local Government Area, the task force reported six suspects killed near Ungwan Iya during an operation with the Civilian Joint Task Force. It linked the operation to an attack in Ungwan Mallami village, saying two people were abducted there; its account did not state their status.
In Katsina’s Sabuwa Local Government Area, the military said farmers’ distress call brought troops to Machika Dam. It reported two suspects killed and Suleiman Umar, 42, rescued, along with the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, ammunition and a motorcycle.
Across the operations, the military also listed three locally fabricated guns, bringing the reported total firearms recovered to four. It also reported three motorcycles, cutlasses and charms.
The Ministry of Defence describes Operation Fansan Yamma as a counter-banditry operation covering Zamfara, Sokoto, Katsina and Kebbi states. The task force said patrols and searches would continue to pursue suspects and look for other captives.
