Health Minister Muhammad Ali Pate said Thursday that officials had found no evidence Ebola had spread into Nigerian communities, while contact tracing continued around the country’s one confirmed case.

Pate said there was “no need for any panic” and described the infection as a “contained, single case.” Pate said gathering plans would remain in place for now, though authorities could add measures if conditions deteriorated.

Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and the World Health Organization (WHO) each reported that 44 close contacts were being monitored. Officials continued tracing and monitoring people who may have been exposed. Investigators were reviewing the patient’s travel and exposure history, but her likely source of infection remained under investigation.
