A six-month ₦70,000 transport intervention will begin in November under an agreement between Nigeria's Federal Government and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), while the national minimum wage's implementation date remains disputed.

The Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment's Oct. 27 resolution says the Federal Government will provide the transport intervention for six months beginning in November 2026. It describes the measure as applying “across all levels” and urges state and local governments to participate. The resolution does not specify payment frequency or define which groups are covered.

The Abuja meeting was chaired by Labour and Employment Minister Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi. NLC President Joe Ajaero led the union delegation. The resolution records no agreement on when the national minimum wage will be implemented.

The two sides agreed to establish a Minimum Wage Negotiation Committee and have it begin meeting immediately.

The government separately approved peculiar allowance arrears dating from May 1, 2026, with payments scheduled to start in November in three equal monthly installments. It also said 19 months of health-worker allowance arrears would be cleared within three months from December 2026.

The resolution places the transport intervention under a heading on petroleum-price reductions and palliatives, but does not announce a fuel-price change. It also says the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission is to verify the agricultural hazard-allowance recipients and related costs within two weeks. A cost update on a proposed adjustment to the Consolidated Health Salary Structure is expected within three weeks.

The resolution followed conciliation meetings on Oct. 22 and Oct. 27. It gives no total cost for the transport intervention. The government and NLC agreed to reconvene after one month to review implementation.
