Nomura Holdings’ net income attributable to shareholders rose 12.7% from a year earlier to 103.7 billion yen in July-September, although the implied result was 28.7% below the April-June quarter.

The July-September amount is calculated from Nomura’s first-quarter and six-month disclosures; it is not listed separately in the six-month summary. The company reported 249.289 billion yen in net income for the six months ended Sept. 30 and 145.561 billion yen for April-June. Subtracting the first-quarter result from the six-month total gives 103.728 billion yen for the second quarter.

The same calculation puts the year-earlier July-September result at 92.078 billion yen: six-month net income of 196.643 billion yen less first-quarter income of 104.565 billion yen. The comparison implies 12.7% annual growth, which Reuters reported as 13%. The second-quarter result was also 28.7% below the 145.561 billion yen recorded in April-June.

Nomura’s fiscal second quarter covered the three months through Sept. 30. Its fiscal year ends March 31, 2027.

For the six months from April 1 to Sept. 30, annualized return on shareholders’ equity was 13.3%, compared with 11.3% a year earlier. Net revenue reached 1.294 trillion yen, up 24.6%, while income before income taxes rose 21.1% to 359.5 billion yen. Net income attributable to shareholders totaled 249.3 billion yen, a 26.8% increase.

Reuters cited growth in wealth management as a factor behind the quarterly year-over-year gain.

Nomura reported an interim dividend of 35 yen per share for the period ended Sept. 30, up from 27 yen for the year-earlier period. The company said uncertainty in global capital markets, including economic and market conditions, means it does not provide earnings forecasts.
