North Korea says it plans to make four cluster-bomb warhead types available to its military by the end of 2026 after a test of the weapon's combat performance.
KCNA said the test assessed the warhead's battlefield performance and destructive force. The agency said the design is intended for use on tactical ballistic missiles.
KCNA said the Type 2 model could destroy a single target area spanning 12 to 13 hectares under its highest-density condition. An official from North Korea's missile administration said the warheads fall into four categories but offered no details.
Reuters reported that roughly 10 ballistic missiles were test-fired seaward from North Korea's east coast on Oct. 29. The launches coincided with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz's summit visit to South Korea, Reuters said.
In recent weeks, Reuters has reported other missile tests and a drone exhibition. Reuters quoted analysts who linked the launches with a possible push to modernize North Korea's armed forces.
