Nvidia introduced a modular design for AI data centers in Berlin on Oct. 21, pitching faster deployment as the European Union seeks more computing capacity for its economy.

DSX POD is a reference design for containerized AI factories that incorporate Nvidia’s Vera Rubin systems and the infrastructure needed to run them. Nvidia says partners would assemble and check the units before shipping them. With power, cooling, networking and other site infrastructure ready, the company projects deployment could take as little as 14 days, compared with six months for a conventional deployment at that same stage.

Nvidia attributes the projected time savings to factory assembly taking place while a site is prepared. It says earlier operation could allow data center operators to earn revenue from AI workloads sooner.

A Federal Reserve analysis put the EU at 4.8% and the United States at 74% of observed high-end AI supercomputer capacity through July 2025. The Fed estimated that the capacity it observed covered 10% to 20% of global AI supercomputer capacity.

The European Commission opened a tender in July for up to seven AI gigafactories. It said the effort would draw on up to €10 billion in EU and national funding and was expected to attract at least €20 billion in private investment. The commission says the initiative aims to expand access to computing and strengthen Europe’s technological sovereignty.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said at the Oct. 21 keynote that Europe’s AI economy was accelerating and pointed to industrial uses for the technology. Siemens said an AI agent at its Erlangen factory proposes production scenarios that are checked in a digital twin, a virtual model of the plant, before implementation. Nvidia featured the application in a keynote video.

Nvidia said it has committed nearly $10 billion to Europe’s technology ecosystem and works with more than 12,000 partners. At a separate Berlin event Oct. 20, Huang described nearly $1 billion of Nvidia investment in Germany over the past year.

Dell Technologies, HPE, Lenovo, Schneider Electric and Vertiv are among the partners working toward deliveries of systems built to the DSX POD design. Nvidia says they are targeting worldwide delivery in early 2027.
